Saturday of Service is the opportunity for Soroptimist from all over the world to join together on one day to carry out service projects that improve the lives of women and girls. Saturday of Service is a special day that employs the power of Soroptimists everywhere to improve the lives of women and girls.
Soroptimist Saturday of Service is always the Saturday prior to International Women's Day, March 8th. International Women's Day is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society, and the political process of equal footing with men. Since the very beginning of this century, women around the world have employed International Women's Day as a rallying point for coordinated efforts to demand women's rights. It is a day to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination in pursuit of women's rights.
The Hanford club has devoted our Saturday of Service event to the following programs: Barbara Saville Women's Shelter , Hannah's House, Hanford Soup Kitchen, and Human Services. This year our club volunteered to makeover the rooms of our local group home for girls ages 12-18. Here are a few of the before and after pictures:
